The Rugby Town Women’s football team took on third placed Cookley Ladies FC, and due to recent rain and playing last week the main pitch has taken a few games, switched to Astro, booking this early to ensure games get played. Having come out of the away fixture losing it was all to play for and with just about a full squad to select from, Rugby had plenty of options for the match.
Both teams were very much equal for the whole of the first half, with both teams having chances to score; Rugby took there best chance mid-way through the half to end it one nil up. Still all to play for in the next 45 minutes. Cookley as you would expect came out fast in the 2nd half pressuring Rugby back into their half; Rugby held great discipline through out to wether this, limiting Cookley to half chances. Rugby started to get back into the game and move further up the pitch to pressure the opposition high up and grabbed another two quick goals to run out 3-0 winners on the day.
Great demonstration of regional women’s football by both teams, with Rugby Town WFC taking their chances on the day.
