Rugby Town Ladies FC v Redditch United Ladies FC

Newly promoted Rugby Town Ladies FC, sponsored by Jamesway Travel entertained Redditch United Ladies FC for their first match in the West Midlands Regional League, Division 1 South.

Last season Redditch United Ladies were runners up in this league by 1 point and their strength and quality was soon on display. Rugby Town were on the back foot for most of the game, failing to take advantage & make use of the strong wind that was behind them in the first half, when they did attack the Redditch goal they were met with a well disciplined defence & an excellent keeper who made some great saves.

The Rugby defence tried to stand firm but were eventually broken down with some fine slick passing play and movement off the ball by Redditch.

In the second half Redditch used the wind behind them to full advantage with Leah Morris’ goal being peppered with long range shots and curling corners.

Rugby will have learnt a hard lesson of what this league is all about and what it takes to win games in it. Plenty of positives to take away and work on in training.

Final score
Rugby Town LFC 0
Redditch United LFC 6

Jamesway TravelĀ player of the match was awarded to Becky Clusker with a sterling captain’s performance in the middle of defence.

Message from Redditch United Ladies FC – ‘A fantastic facility and a great bunch of people to go with it. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and if anyone wants to see how a decent grassroots club should set up its here. We really look forward to hosting you later in the season. Good luck in establishing yourselves in the league this year’

Next game is away at early league leaders Droitwich Spa, 17th September.
