Rugby Town Girls u10s v East Goscote u10s

Rugby Town Girls u10’s welcomed East Goscote United to Kilsby Lane this weekend and once again another boggy pitch to try to navigate.

After a constructive chat at training on Friday evening after the previous week’s game, regarding effort and commitment, positional play and u10’s football development training, the girls play more as a cohesive unit this week. We saw a huge improvement in effort which was very pleasing to see for the coaches.

We welcomed captain Marley back into the fold after a bout of illness in the week & she slotted straight into her familiar role of ball winner in central defence. Ably supported by Rosie who looked comfortable with the ball at her feet, both making some great through passes to midfield and the forward line. Jenna was initially quiet in goal but did very well and kept her concentration when called upon on the rare occasions East Goscote threatened.

Another clean sheet to add to her debut GK season so far. Melissa and Jasmine were an attacking threat from the go, passing the ball between each other very well upfront, supported by an attacking Lila and Holly, who both had a great game in defence and midfield closing down most attempts by East Goscote to get the ball forward. With Holly picking up the defensive duties it allowed Lila to dribble through the opposition & finish well on a couple of mazy runs from defence.

With a full squad to choose from, rotation was key and wholesale changes were made throughout the game. Well done to Poppy on getting her first goals of the season with a superb show in midfield setting a benchmark for future games. Also Katie, Madi and Lois for supporting with some very hardworking performances.

The girls were asked to play in various positions on the pitch, some a little unfamiliar to them but they coped very well with the changes & kept the pressure on throughout. It could have been a cricket score for no wickets if it wasn’t for some stout defending & good stops by the opposition keeper. Overall, a much improved performance on last week but there will be much tougher tests ahead but with this kind of effort & determination we will go from strength to strength.

Well done team. Parents player of the match shared between Poppy and Lila and coaches player of the match awarded to Poppy, both for their star performances of the season so far.
