AFC Market Bosworth vs. Rugby Town Girls U10

So Match Day 2 had us playing at home against a side we hadn’t played before, Market Bosworth. There was a chill in the air and it felt like proper football weather. The girls turned up in their new purple tops looking smart and ready to put all of Friday’s shooting training into practice.

The game started off well with Anya and Ava tackling hard and winning the ball back in good positions in the park. The opposition defended well and prevented us from trying out our newfound shooting boots.  Ruby (first ever game) played really well, covering in defence and driving forward when attacking.  Fraya and Poppy battled hard on the wings and after 25 minutes of football, both teams were evenly matched.

After a good chat at half time, the girls came out with fire in their bellies and showed they remembered their training as the shots started to rain in on a good Market Bosworth defence. Chloe hammered the shots in, Ruby also found the shooting boots as the girls started to relax and enjoy the game.  Megan who had had a quiet game in goal came on to run off some energy and linked up well with both Chloe and a well-positioned Emilia.  Ellie took up the mantle as the goalkeeper and all the Friday night training paid off as she made some great saves.

The girls finished strong with Astrid and Louise defending well to keep a Market Bosworth side pinned into the own half for long periods of time.

The coaches player of the match went to Ellie – she battled hard in a defensive midfield role then she dropped into goal for the second and pulled off some good saves, a great team player.

Still, lots to work on around formation and holding of positions but we go again next week, away at East Goscote; a team we played last season and have always been a good and friendly side.
