Rugby Town u12 Lionesses travelled to Glenfield confident following recent good performance. The match started off at a high tempo, both teams clearly keen to get the ball forward.
However it was Rugby who took the early lead, with a great goal from Jess. The Rugby attack of Amelia, Jess and Lola had a great game today. They were working well to support each other and making a number of really dangerous attacks which on another day would have resulted in goals. Amelia and Lola were dominant on both wings, whilst Jess was a constant threat in centre.
Katie and El again had strong games covering every inch of the pitch, and not only broke up many opposition attacks early, but also made crucial passes to set up Rugby attacking moves.
Likewise Sophia and Elisa both did well in midfield with ease and were able to continue the midfield work, also making some crucial tackles, both girls always a showing positive attitude.
Rugby defence of Alice, Beth and Maddie again looked solid, and handled many of the Glenfield attacks, with some strong tackles and crucial clearances. They are starting to really read the game well and deal with the danger early and with confidence.
Emmi also had a great game today, and despite not being called into action as much as other games, she still commanded her box, and made some great saves when needed.
Rugby looked on to take the 3 points today, despite not being able to close out the game out with a second goal. However with only a few minutes left, Glenfield were awarded a free kick. Rugby formed a wall and this prevented a direct shot. However, the ball ended up at a Glenfield attacker who took their opportunity.
There was no time for Rugby to continue their great play to try and get the winner, and the game ended with the draw.
Final score 1-1.
