Rugby Town kicked off their 2025–26 season with their first home fixture, proudly wearing their new short-sleeve sky blue kits. The visitors, East Goscote U12s in yellow, were met with a fast-paced and determined Town side.
From the first whistle, Rugby Town dominated the early exchanges, launching wave after wave of attacks. East Goscote’s goalkeeper was in inspired form, making a string of impressive saves to keep the score level. Her performance throughout the match deserves special mention — she was a standout player for the visitors.
First Half Highlights
Town’s pressure eventually paid off. After a powerful run and shot from Eve, the ball ricocheted to Sienna M, who reacted quickly and played a clever pass out wide. Sienna W latched onto it and finished with composure to make it 1–0.
East Goscote responded swiftly, stringing together a flowing passing move to equalise and bring the score to 1–1.
Despite the setback, Rugby Town continued to press forward. Esme, Emy, and Libby were tireless in midfield, battling for every 50/50 and driving the team forward. East Goscote’s defence held firm, and the first half ended evenly poised.
Second Half Action
The second half began with East Goscote taking the lead for the first time, capitalising on a quick counterattack to go 2–1 up.
But the goal only ignited the Town girls further. Eve, now leading the line, responded with a determined run and a sharp finish to level the score at 2–2.
The match remained tense and end-to-end, with chances for both sides. A fierce shot from Town was acrobatically saved by the Goscote keeper, but the rebound fell kindly to Sienna M, who calmly slotted it home to make it 3–2.
As the clock ticked down, Eve struck again with a well-taken goal to seal the win at 4–2 and secure the first points of the campaign.
