An away match on a fresh crisp morning, our under 8’s Yellow team took on Epworth Forest Lionesses. Today’s game was played across four 10 minute quarters. Last minute change of squad due to illness did not deter the team spirit. A fast paced game, we were quick to respond to play. Good communication between the players resulted in speedy decisions being made, this gave us a great advantage and our experience is starting to show week on week. We maintained possession and control throughout the majority of the game.
Our formidable coach Jerome took the decision to change things up and play the girls in positions that they are less familiar with. This tested the girls’ understanding of the game and they rose to the challenge. Scarlett was let loose upfront, her long legs serving her well to cover lots of ground at speed, Laura showed fearless determination winning some great tackles and putting the opposition under pressure on the ball. Lily showed great skill on the ball and taking back control of the ball and making some strong runs and passes, Saanivi made running up the line look effortless and supported well in defence, Lexi was once again a powerhouse when opportunities were created and May despite being challenged in goal kept her focus and boundless energy up. A late appearance from Evelyn, she was determined to make her mark on the game and dug deep to put in some great tackles. Well done to Peggy who took home P.O.M for being very strong in defence and very positive going forward.
