This was our first home match since October 22nd and it seemed strange for the girls to be playing on the home Astro, for the first time in nearly 2 months! After such a strong run of away performances it was now time to convert this to a good home performance. The girls soon settled down to the larger top pitch and looked very organised in the opening stages of the game as we faced Coalville Town Rookettes U10s.
The Rugby Town girls soon and quickly opened up a couple of quick back to back first half opportunities despite a well organised and hardworking Coalville display. As the first half ended Rugby were driving the ball forward at regular turns using the wings effectively with strength in midfield. This then allowed for some amazing individual efforts in attack.
The second half echoed the first with an industrious and hardworking second half performance from both teams. Coalville made sure the defence and the Town keeper were kept on their toes throughout as they countered a constant flow of long high balls from the Coalville defensive end. This ensured Rugby flowed and built from the back at every moment and as the game closed, Rugby had managed to protect the Town goal to end the first part of the season with smiles. Now it’s time for Santa and Xmas cheer as the girls take a deserved and welcome break before the next match in early Jan. To sum up another excellent team performance against a well organised and strong team.
POM: Esme and Eve, for a strong performance in goal and a solid, impenetrable display in centre mid, respectively.
PPOM: Izzy, defended every inch of the pitch with great maturity, calm, skill and ability.
