Sponsors: Hamilton Medical and Life Investments Estate

Team: Annalise, Sienna M., Sienna W., Emilia, Emy-Mae, Alexis, Esme, Eve, Dotty, Izzy

This was Rugby Towns U10s second match in a row against Asfordby, so it was good to be back on the home astro after a tough and hard fought away match against the Sapphires.

Fresh from the game the week before the girls lined up against the other Asfordby team called the Superstars Girls. Rugby playing with the same squad of players and formation as the start of the New Year but with a more friendly start time as deep winter, dark mornings sets in on the u10 season.

The Rugby girls started well and manged to pass the ball forward with ease and good flowing football with increased effective passing in a direct comparison to last weeks away match. This resulted in many opportunities and good possession levels.

Unfortunately the rub of the green failed to show up and Rugby suffered a quick unexpected counter attack that had our defense working overtime to keep the opposition at bay. Asfordby with good organisation and hardwork built on this advantage quickly as the second half opened which resulted in the Rugby Town girls work hard throughout the second period in front of a large crowd of supportive parents.

Rugby maintained good possession, control and played some excellent football with strength in defence and midfield. Moving the ball forward and running effectively from deep positions to build numerous opportunities on the Sapphires end.

Overall in both games against Asfordby the Rugby girls worked really hard, especially considering the recent step up to the Green League, which is delivering new challenges and experience. It’s also highlighting the importance of organisation, team play, passing and understanding. This will be to the teams advantage and players strength and overall positive development.
