Sunday’s match was a later kick off than some of the past early away starts! On the beautiful astro surface of the lower home pitches of Butlin Road (without a puddle or mud bath in sight), as we looked to play for the first time Croft Junior Bluebelles u10’s.

Big thank you and call out to Rich, Chris, Rob and Peter for helping with the goals pre-match and equally match tidy up.

The sun was shining with a cool and fresh feel to the air. The home parents took up position standing on the far embankment and lucky for us no wolves in sight!!!

Rugby Town were unfortunately without four of its players so the match was always going to be a tough ask with no subs and a big pitch to cover. As the match kicked off the Town u10’s struggled to get into the game in the first 10 mins. Despite this, they slowly built momentum and energy as the game started to change direction.

Rugby built on large periods of successful possession and numerous presses with some excellent free flowing football, goalkeeping, defending and strong midfield play. At its best when players were finding each other with nice passes into wide positions and cutting in to dangerous positions. As the half came to a conclusion the match was finely balanced between two equally matched and hardworking teams.

The second half, kicked off in a similar way to the first half with the Bluebelles working well and edging the encounter with fast and accurate play despite again some nice goalkeeping and defending. After dusting themselves down the Rugby girls seemed to find a second wind and a real belief that they could get something from the game. Slowly they built up steam with numerous effective pressing. Despite this the Bluebelles kept the home team defence on its toes with fast counter attacking football, saved by some excellent last minute one on one defending and goalkeeping. The hard work of both teams and efforts throughout 50 mins of play resulted in what felt like an even result for both teams.

In summary all the Rugby girls worked their socks off throughout and listened well to instruction showing they can cope in the higher leagues at u10 level. Well done and thanks for producing a great game to watch.

In lieu of a Managers Player this week, we went with a Players’ player, and the team have chosen both Sienna W. and Sienna M.

PPOM: Emy Mae, working so hard all over the pitch and winning so many last minute 50/50 challenges.
