Rugby Town Ladies Development v Chelmsley Colts

After two defeats in the opening two games of the season, the ladies development team were determined on the back of hard training sessions to reverse the trend.

With a revised formation of a 3-5-2 and Katie B as stand in keeper, the ladies started with sharper passing and control from the off in midfield with Katie A pulling the strings and running at the Colts.

Breaking down the left was Cheyanne who was able to work some well timed crosses into the box from the left wing and the pressure of these told with the ladies going ahead within the first 10 minutes.

Nat was strong in midfield, really getting stuck in to 50/50 balls coming out top, passing well with Meg to dominate in midfield and deliver exactly what the coaches had asked for before the start.

Charlotte was rampant on the right wing driving forward at every chance, linking with Bobbie and getting behind the defence and the ladies went in 6-0 up at half time, with Sara on fire with 4.

The second half was much of the same with continued determination, self belief and some well joined up attacks. Despite the Colts being awarded a penalty, Emma who helped out in net so Katie B could get warm with a run about made herself big and the shot went over the bar, she continued to tell everyone she saved it though!

Bobbie really started to scare the defence with some great touches and more goals followed one after the other. Outstanding strong defence from Em, Bailey and Lucy saw the ball thankfully kept away from Emma again for most of the second half. Charlotte got on the scoresheet with all her hard running rewarded with 2 fine goals.
Chelmsley with only 9 players never let their heads drop and finally broke through with an accomplished finish to score before the end.

Manager Dave interviewed after the game said ‘well done to Chelmsley Colts who carried on and scored a goal right at the end.

Player of the match awarded to the whole team for the great team performance
