Rugby Town Girls delivered a thrilling performance in their second home game of the season, securing a 4–2 victory over Ashby Ivanhoe in a match packed with flair, resilience, and late-game heroics.
First Half Dominance
The game burst into life with relentless attacking play from the forward trio of Sienna W, Esme, and Sienna M, backed by a dynamic midfield of Emy, Libby, and Lillie. After several near misses, Esme’s dazzling footwork on the left led to a pinpoint cross and a composed first-time finish from Sienna M. to open the scoring. Defensively, Nora stood tall in goal, supported by a rock-solid back line which at various times included Emilia, Gracie, Isla, Izzy, Esme, and Arielle—whose last-minute goal-line clearance was a standout moment.
Second Half Drama
Rugby resumed with intensity, and Emy’s well-deserved strike into the bottom corner made it 2–0. But Ashby responded with grit, capitalising on a lapse in concentration to score directly from a corner and then quickly equalising with a slick team move. With the score at 2–2, Rugby regrouped. Emilia’s long-range effort narrowly missed, and Sienna M. came close again after a sharp setup from Izzy.
Late Surge Seals the Win
With just minutes remaining, Lillie stepped up. Her in-swinging corner caused confusion in the Ashby box, sneaking in to make it 3–2. Moments later, she struck again from close range, sealing a 4–2 win and sending the home crowd into celebration.
