A 9:30 kick off this week with Rugby back in league action, and looking to get back to winning ways after being knocked out of the cup the previous week by a good side from the league above. A beautiful December morning with the sun shining, Rugby decided to start with the sun behind them and instantly showed their intent, Ella having a shot that went just wide followed by a missed chance from Macey.

It didn’t take long for Rugby to take the lead, Sophie went on a great run beating a number of players, with the resulting cross deflected into the Sileby net by one of the defenders under pressure from the Rugby forwards.

**Score Update:**  Rugby Town 1 – 0 Sileby

Rugby were encouraged by their start to the game and went looking for a second, with Poppy having a shot that went over the bar. Ella was rampaging forward at every opportunity and was able to beat her defender at will, producing a good cross that should have been converted to make it 2. Sophie then had a shot that was well saved by the Sileby goalkeeper.

The constant pressure soon paid off with Sophie again beating her defender and Macey converting the chance to make it 2-0. A well worked and finished goal to give Rugby a deserved 2 goal cushion.

**Score Update:**  Rugby Town 2 – 0 Sileby

Sileby started to come back into the game after making some substitutions. After a tangle in the box between Elsie and a forward the referee decided to award a penalty. It was harsh on Elsie who had initially been tripped by the Sileby forward. The penalty was dispatched into the corner to make it 2-1, Jasmine unable to channel her inner Rushworth to be able to keep it out.

**Score Update:**  Rugby Town 2 – 1 Sileby

The goal was a wakeup for Rugby and they soon restored their two goal advantage. Ronnie chased the ball down and finished well for the third goal. The never give up attitude to go after the ball rewarded. The Rugby crowd went wild and the goal was greeted with a monster style cheer from the top tier of the stand.

**Score Update:**  Rugby Town 3 – 1 Sileby

It was soon 4 for Rugby, Sophie running down the left wing again and shooting/crossing (she definitely said it was a shot at half time), the ball going over the Sileby keeper and into the back of the net. A goal that EMC would have been proud of.

**Score Update:**  Rugby Town 4 – 1 Sileby

Rugby didn’t sit back and continued to look for more goals, a big kick from Jasmine chased by Daisy-May who came close to scoring.

**Half time**  Rugby Town 4 – 1 Sileby

The second half started brightly for Rugby, Daisy-May going on a good run and winning a corner. After another corner Poppy then had a shot which was quickly followed by a shot by Leila.

Rugby rotated their subs regularly to give some of the players a rest. Sileby started to come back into the game but the Rugby defence was solid today. Kaitlin, Elsie and Poppy H were all excellent. Kaitlin with her no nonsense approach to defending kept the ball well away from Jasmine’s goal.

As the half went on Rugby became even more confident. Some great passing out of defence almost resulted in a fifth goal. What was really pleasing to see was the communication between players especially when looking for the next pass to take the team forward.

The Sileby keeper then made a good save after yet another Rugby corner. It was mostly one way traffic with Rugby trying to add to the 4 goals they had scored in the first half but the Sileby keeper was a match for all of the shots that came her way.

After another good attacking move from Rugby Poppy had a shot that was well saved. Sileby then had a free kick in a good position but the Rugby defence were able to keep it out.

**Full-time:** Rugby Town 4 – 1 Sileby

A solid performance from Rugby today with the game effectively over by half time. Some really good passing moves, particularly in the second half, with just the final shot missing to make it an even bigger deserved win for Rugby against a battling Sileby side.

Coaches player Poppy H

Despite carrying an injury Poppy played her socks off today. Excellent and strong in defence with some great tackles but also dynamic going forward with some great interplay with Sophie.

Thanks to all the coaches and parents. Thanks to Sileby, thanks to Tom the referee who was excellent as usual and thanks to James for running the line and not having any controversial offside decisions to make.
