Rugby Town U12 Pumas vs Houghton Rangers

Sunday 25th January

Squad: Emy-Mae, Esme, Izzy, Nora, Gracie, Arielle, Chloe, Libby, Lillie, Sienna M, Emilia, Eve
Sponsors: Hamilton Medical & Lightning Tools

First Half
Following a hardworking 1–1 draw away at Burbage FC on a difficult pitch, it was a welcome return to home turf on the familiar lower-pitch astro as Rugby Town hosted Houghton Rangers for their first meeting in some time.
With close to a full squad available, Rugby Town started brightly. Several early attacks, led by Eve, Lillie and Chloe, tested the Houghton defence but were denied by strong goalkeeping and well-organised defending. As the half progressed, the coaches made adjustments to try and increase the attacking impact from the right side.
Despite positive play, Rugby Town fell behind to a well-timed through ball and composed finish from Houghton, leaving the home side trailing 0–1 at half-time.
HT: 0-1

Second Half
The second half began much like the first, with good spells of possession and attacking intent. Sienna provided energy on the wing, while Eve continued to threaten, supported in midfield by the tireless efforts of Lillie, Arielle and captain Emy, who battled for every 50/50.
However, a series of tight offside decisions disrupted Rugby Town’s momentum, and the team struggled to apply consistent pressure, often sitting too deep. Houghton remained a threat throughout and, as Rugby Town lost their grip on the game, conceded a second goal from a rare lapse to make it 0–2.
This was disappointing given the immense effort from the defensive unit, with Norah, Gracie, Izzy, Esme, Arielle, Emilia and Chloe working tirelessly, well supported by Emy and Libby. Shortly after the second goal, Rugby Town came close to pulling one back, which could have sparked a grandstand finish, but as the game entered its final stages belief began to fade.

There are plenty of reflections and lessons to take from this match in what has still been a positive season so far. With no easy games in this league, the focus now turns to maximising energy levels and working collectively to build on earlier success.
